The Meditation Foundation's course is ideally suited to an NHS setting because of its emphasis on the health benefits which are well supported by research. The course would be useful for anyone, but will be of particular value to patients who have stress-related health problems. Stuart is a skilful presenter who is deeply committed to his subject; he offers and demonstrates a wide range of different methods of accessing the meditative state. As a result one patient, who had been recently diagnosed with ischaemic heart disease, said that the afternoon had made her feel fully relaxed for the first time in her life.
Dr G Johnson, GP and Research Director, Stopsley Medical Practice
Stuart presented the evening very well and quickly instilled a tranquil, relaxing atmosphere and soon got down to business by introducing the meditation styles and getting everyone to put it into practice without sitting crossed legged on the floor! The age range was from 30 to 80 and a good mix of men and women. Stuart quickly gained the commitment of the whole group to continuing with the sessions and most patients were discussing the benefits of the evening session as they left the Surgery. It was a very successful evening.

The course you offered to us at the Surgery was a very worthwhile project for us to undertake with 15 people attending at the start and all bar one person completing the five week course, this alone shows how valuable the patients felt the sessions were to them. All the group commented on how the training had helped them find a meditation style that suited them and that it was taught in a professional, relaxed and informative way that they will be able to continue practising their own meditation in the future. All the patients said that if we plan to continue the sessions they would all like to be part of a drop in service and have reported this information back to their GP's. On the strength of this Dr Dixon has asked me to contact you to see if we can now move this forward.
Stuart Bold of the Meditation Foundation provided a thoroughly fascinating 3 hour tutorial on meditation in our surgery. The objective was to introduce us to meditation for the purposes of general health and well-being. He purposely avoided getting embroiled in the spiritual perspectives of meditation. He gave a clear overview of meditation and it's benefits, supported by evidence based medicine. He initiated us into meditative techniques by leading short sessions. These were interspersed with teaching and discussion / feedback from us. The three hours was excellently structured and set at a pace which allowed easy assimilation of information. The time passed very quickly. I would urge you all to invite Stuart to your surgeries. Stuart, thank you very much for your meditation instruction session at my surgery - an amazing opportunity and experience. Personally I found the evening fascinating and rewarding.

I would love to see your courses become more widely available across the PCT as a tool to help patients with minor or moderate mental illness problems. I am increasingly disillusioned by what we are currently able to offer to patients in terms of time, medication and talking therapies and feel strongly that a different approach is needed. We are missing an opportunity when patients present, to offer them real help in their personal development that will continue to serve them in the future and offer them an on going resource to use at times of stress anxiety and depression.
Dr Peter Spurrier, Senior Partner, Maywood Health Care Centre
Stuart Bold of the Meditation Foundation led a half day meditation workshop for the partners and staff at our surgery. The time spent with him was instructive and helpful, as well as being extremely relaxing. Even the sceptical member who never relaxes was able to gain the experience of being in a meditation state by the end of the afternoon. The experience has been a 'bonding' milestone for the practice team without the horrific participation exercises that most of these 'corporate event' occasions usually contain and on this point alone far excelled the GP trainee experiences I had to endure as part of the VTS scheme. Since the workshop, feedback from all participants has been favourable, with a sense of gratitude for being offered the opportunity to learn a skill which can be adapted to personal use at any time required and is beneficial to life and health- a rare opportunity within everyday NHS work duties. There is a palpable difference in the surgery as previous 'stress' levels appear significantly reduced and those members who were unable to participate initially now wish for a second session to 'catch up'. We hope to welcome Stuart back soon.
Dr A Sikorski, Wadhurst GP practice
From being total sceptic after just one evening, I became intrigued and fascinated. Thank you.
Dr Iwona Pagoda
You're sessions were excellently tailored and run with a quiet and sensible expertise that could only come from a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Dr Peter Spurrier
I had attended meditation courses before, but never really engaged with the idea. Stuart's method appealed to me because the ideas which he put forward made it much easier for me to stay focussed. He also provided several useful suggestions for establishing a daily practice. Since attending his sessions I have kept to my resolution of 15 minutes of meditation each day. I have been amazed at the difference that this has made to my working day.
Dr Gina Johnson
The meditation is going great! I can really feel the benefits and moreover really enjoy it.
Dr D Anderson
Quick note on this grey drizzly Monday morning to say thank you for your masterful smooth running of the group, your constant pervading calm aura and the meditation teaching- all very much appreciated.
